Our Story

Prolific Machines was founded in 2020 on the premise that light is the best way to control biology, using optogenetics to control gene expression in biomanufacturing. Scalability & compatibility have been central to our approach from the very beginning.

Today, Prolific is the first to integrate optogenetic cell line development, plug‑and‑play illumination systems, and data‑driven process optimization into industrialized solutions for therapeutics production. Together, these technologies introduce controllability into protein expression, enabling improved productivity, more consistent product quality, and more predictable manufacturing performance.

Rather than optimizing around biological constraints by trading off productivity, growth rate, or quality, we give you direct control over the cells.

Our Team

Prolific brings together a highly talented team of scientists and engineers with diverse backgrounds in synthetic biology, cell line development, bioprocess development, automation, physics and biotechnology platform development.

Our team members have previously contributed to the development and manufacturing of biologic therapies at leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Our team’s experience shapes our approach: novel technologies must not only demonstrate strong biological performance, but also integrate seamlessly into real manufacturing environments.
